Privacy Policy

The privacy policy of a plugin that collects nothing

Effective date: July 31, 2026

Back to Vocalect
TL;DR The Vocalect Audio Input plugin collects no personal data. It makes no external HTTP requests, sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and stores nothing on your server. Audio and transcripts are processed in the visitor's own browser.

1. Who we are

Vocalect Audio Input ("the Plugin") is a WordPress plugin developed and maintained by Hamid Reza Sepehr. This policy explains how the Plugin handles information when installed on a website. Questions about this policy can be sent to me@hamidrezasepehr.com.

2. Data the Plugin collects

None. The Plugin does not collect, store, transmit, or process any personal data. Specifically:

  • No analytics, tracking pixels, or fingerprinting scripts are included.
  • No cookies are set by the Plugin.
  • No data is written to the site's database beyond ordinary WordPress settings (the settings you choose), which contain no personal information.
  • The Plugin makes zero external HTTP requests of any kind.

3. How voice dictation works

Dictation is powered by the Web Speech API, a native browser feature. When a visitor clicks the microphone button, speech recognition runs entirely within their own browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari, or another supported browser). The recognized text is shown to the visitor, who chooses whether to insert it into the form field.

  • Raw audio is processed by the visitor's browser and is not uploaded to this site's server, to the Plugin's servers, or to any third-party server controlled by the Plugin.
  • Browser vendors that implement the Web Speech API operate under their own privacy policies. If the browser performs recognition on a remote service (which varies by browser and is outside this Plugin's control), that interaction is governed by the browser vendor's policy and settings, not by this Plugin.
  • The Plugin never receives, stores, or logs transcripts.

4. What the site owner controls

The website owner decides where the Plugin is enabled, which form fields expose a microphone button, and whether mobile devices are supported. The Plugin provides settings for targeting and exclusion but these choices contain no personal data.

5. GDPR and CCPA compliance

Because the Plugin processes no personal data, installing it adds no new data-processing obligations under the GDPR, CCPA, or similar regulations. Site owners remain responsible, as always, for the data their own forms collect — such as information visitors type or submit on their own.

6. Third-party services

The Plugin itself has no third-party integrations, embeds, or service dependencies. The only third-party technology involved is the Web Speech API built into the visitor's browser, as described in section 3.

7. Data retention and deletion

The Plugin stores no user data, so there is nothing to retain or delete. Plugin settings stored in the WordPress options table are fully removed when the Plugin is uninstalled via the standard WordPress uninstall routine.

8. Children's privacy

The Plugin does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13.

9. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the effective date at the top of this page will be updated. Material changes will be highlighted on the plugin's WordPress.org page.
